There’s a new queen coming to the throne

No I am not talking about our dearest Liz, HRH Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth.  Long may she reign over us.  (we love you Liz)

Cast your mind back, to what seems like a long long long long (you see where I am going with this…) long time ago, when the lovely people at Cunard announced that we were getting a fourth ship to the fleet in 2022.  Yes, it was that long ago.  Well, this weekend just gone, finally, the ceremony for the cutting of the steal for the new ship happened.  So the new Cunard Queen is on the way.

If she is not yet built nor arrived does that make her a princess rather than a queen?  But then that would confuse her with one of the Princess Cruises fleet.  Yeah, that’s far too confusing for even my head as a type this.

The as yet named queen (my bets are on Queen Anne, watch this space I’m telling you) is due to arrive sometime in 2022, and her arrival will make her the 249th Cunard ship, and the only time in Cunard history that they will have had 4 queens all sailing at once in the fleet.  She is being built in Naples in the Fincantieri’s Castellammare di Stabia ship yard in Naples, the company behind her sisters Queen Victoria and Elizabeth.

I have to say I am excited to see what this ship will bring.  Apparently she will be a forward thinking queen, and this is coming from a traditional cruise line.  So could this signal a new direction from the worlds most famous cruise line?  I hope so and i hope not at the same time as I do love them for what they are.

Are you looking forward to a new queen coming to town?  Let me know in the comments below.
