Lovely weekend with Queen Victoria

Hello everyone,

Following my recent short cruise with Cunard on the Queen Victoria – I just wanted to share with you my opinion on Cunard and this beautiful elegant liner… My Cruise was Friday 23rd March for 4 nights from Southampton, including a day in Hamburg, Germany – I will do a separate blog on this lovely City.

Queen Victoria is a very traditional ocean cruise liner, very elegantly furnished throughout showing true details of luxury and without all the new modern “gimmicks” of some of the more family orientated cruise ships.   The stunning Queens Room with dance floor and stage, with live music playing throughout the daytime and evening also adapted very well to the guest band offering a full party night on the last night of the voyage and the dance floor was full by the time it got to the balloon drop towards the end of the night.

The ship surprised me in many ways, there was a much larger mix of age groups on board than I had expected and this was also reflected in how busy the nightclub area on board was right through in to the early hours of the morning.

I was also fully aware that Cunard offer a daytime activity programme including Guest Speakers and was ready for Bingo and quizzes and other cruise ship activities but very pleasantly surprised by some of the other activities which participated in: Zumba, Line Dancing, Darts Competition, Salsacise – where I got to dance with the lovely instructor and I also took part in a Fencing class !! – Cunard being the only cruise line to offer Fencing at Sea.

My new Bingo Dabber – sadly didn’t win… Fencing at Sea – not a flattering outfit, but great fun…. Salsa lesson with the Instructor.

The Queen Victoria also has a lovely British Pub on board, where many of the quizzes took place, which also served a traditional pub lunch – included in cruise fare, and offered an evening dining alternative venue (with a small supplement)

Talking of food – well let me just say I think i broke all past records on weight gain on a cruise and it was only 4 nights !!.. From Breakfast & Lunch which I mainly had in the Buffet, other than 1 day the pub lunch, through to the amazing evening meal in the main dining room – I can’t complain about any of the food, or the service…. but the “not to be missed” food highlight of this trip for me was the traditional afternoon sea served in the Queens Room – this was served every afternoon and you had to get there early to get a table for this amazing experience of dainty sandwiches, beautiful cakes and lovely scones… to get to the end and then the waiters proceeding to come around with more !! I am very glad that Cunard have kept this very British Tradition, also glad for my waistline that we could only get in on the last day.

So huge Thank You’s go to Cunard for giving me the opportunity to experience this for myself, also to my colleague Leanne who actually won this cabin and selected me to join her, and finally to the lovely Captain.

Cunard far exceeded my expectations on many levels, and completely changed a lot of my previous thoughts on them – would I sail with them again ?  Definitely..

Have you cruised with Cunard ? Do you agree with my feedback..
