Alaska Cruise… and A Huge King Crab Leg..

After our week exploring the Rockies and Vancouver it was time to take to the Sea and embark Celebrity Millennium.

Celebrity Millennium is actually the first of the fleet to have just had a huge refit and she is looking absolutely stunning.

Canada Place cruise terminal in Vancouver is very centrally located and at the time of our departure actually had 3 ships docked there so is extremely busy.  Due to cruising Alaska, USA Waters, you actually do US immigration at the cruise terminal – this was quite a lengthy process but soon we were on board and enjoying the amazing buffet lunch facilities with me warning everyone not to eat too much as we had reservations for Qsine for the first night on board.

Our cruise voyage sailed from Vancouver – Seward, here is our itinerary:

10th May Vancouver – Embarkation and absolutely amazing dinner for first night in QSine – I have written about this as my favourite speciality restaurant at sea before and so glad that it lived up to everything I remembered.

11th May Day at Sea – this was great as a very relaxing first day on board – but also this was my Mum’s Birthday so was lovely to have a relaxing day (and a 1/4 – as started midnight UK time and continued til beyond midnight) celebrating after sending Mum off to the spa for a while we enjoyed Champagne, Birthday cakes and a Silent (no it wasn’t..) Disco on the ship.  My mum may have just turned 70 but we were the last 2 off the dance floor.

12th May Ketchikan due to this being the last day of UK premiership season and my husband being a Liverpool fan early wake up call to follow the game…. then in to town to explore – we had no fixed plans for here today and we actually got on a local tour which took us to Potlatch Park to see lots more Totem Poles and finished up walking along Creek street.  There were 5 ships in total in Ketchikan today with a passenger total of 12,212 for a place with a poplation of 8,000 it is very impressive how they cope with this.  Ketchikan is Alaska’s 1st City and the Salmon capital of the world.

13th May Icy Strait Point this is very much a commercial area designed as a stop off point for Cruise ships a lovely walk in to the actual “town” of Hoonah where we actually saw some Whales along the way and also several Eagles, photos really don’t do this justice but was amazing to see…

before making a stop for an Alaskan King Crab Leg that we all shared.. it was huge and very tasty

That’s the first half of cruise…. more to follow, until then always remember Frankie says Cruise…
