A Hotel & Maritime Museum for a true Cruising Icon…

The QE2 was a sad loss to the travel industry when she was retired in 2008 and was sold to become a floating hotel in Dubai… nearly 10 years on – and this is still yet to open, however there is good news and I have seen recently in the travel trade press that things have started to progress again with the development of turning this beautiful ship in to a  Hotel and Maritime Museum and it is set to hopefully open this year.  When I visited Dubai in December 2016, I caught sight of her moored up and reflected then upon how sad that this project had never taken off and I truly hope it does.  Like the Queen Mary, which is a floating hotel in Long Beach, California I think this will be excellent if we are able to combine a couple of nights hotel stay in Dubai on this iconic ship with a cruise on a new ship – so watch this space.

I have recently been watching a 2-part TV documentary about the QE2, which was shown a little while ago, and this highlighted even more what an iconic vessel she was for her time.

I have not actually sailed with Cunard myself, but as you are reading this I will be experiencing my first voyage with them on a short 4 nights cruise on the Queen Victoria from Southampton to Hamburg and I will certainly update you all soon on my Cunard experience.  They really are to me the epitome of cruising and true authentic British Luxury, having visited the newer Queen Elizabeth for lunch on board a few years ago I was certainly impressed with what I saw and I can’t wait to experience this for myself.

Were you luck enough to have sailed on the QE2 ? I would love to hear your stories..
