24 hours in Vancouver

My last blog finished with the journey to Vancouver – where we had a 24 hour stay before embarking our cruise..

We arrived in our rental car and were very happy to quickly dispose of this as Vancouver is not a place that you want to be driving around…

With suitcases dropped off at the hotel (as room not yet ready) time to go and explore.  Vancouver is a stunning City with huge Skyscraper Buildings and Hotels contrasting with a lovely waterfront area.   We walked from the car rental depot towards the Waterfront area and Canada Place Cruise terminal passing many well known chain hotels including a few Fairmont Hotels.  There was the Celebrity Eclipse in port today and we stopped for a while at a lovely little bar overlooking the waterfront and watching the many seaplanes coming in and out whilst we planned the rest of our day…

We did toy with the idea of a hop-on hop-off bus tour but as it was such a lovely day we thought we would just stroll around… as the day got hotter and hotter and the walk to Stanley Park to see the totem poles (had we have realised also how many totem poles we would see in the next week we may not have done this ) and a couple of ice-cream stops took its toll we all agreed the best way to see Vancouver in such a short time would have been by the bus as it is so vast.  Still good to walk off a few calories before the cruise.. walked just over 8 miles – 21,000 steps.

On returning to the City Centre we decided that if we went back to the hotel we may not come back out so we continued our walk to the Steam Clock in Gastown and arrived there just before the 7pm “show” and then went on for Dinner before walking back through China Town.

There are several other popular attractions in Vancouver including tours to Grouse Mountain & Capilano Suspension Bridge so if doing a cruise from here definitely worth a couple of nights stay to explore properly.

Our hotel – the Georgian Court – was very comfortable and very centrally well located opposite the BC sports arena.  The next day we went out for a lovely breakfast and a spot of last minute shopping before taking our transfer vehicle to the cruise terminal to embark Celebrity Millennium…. next issue I am sailing.
