    Formal Dress - Ladies

    Hi Everyone,
We are first time cruisers (RCI - Nov) and have been reading this board with interest to pick up hints and tips.
I noticed the thread for gentleman's formal dress but would just like an opinion on ladies' formal dress.
I have a beautiful full ballgown which I never get to wear and just wondered if I would be completely out of place wearing it on formal night.
    Look forward to your response.
    Thanks
    beejay

We were on NCL- possibly the most informal line going- this Feb, and a woman wearing a crinoline type dress in dusky pinks and browns swept by. People smiled and nodded at her stately progress. She was wearing what she wanted, and good on her!-Jo.

Personally [as someone who loves formal get up ] I would not wear a gown of any sort on a cruise these days. I took 'gowns' when we first started cruising 18 yrs ago and that was fine. These days, if the occasion demands, I take a floaty casual one that can be glammed up or toned down but not usually for a weeks cruise. For the record, we cruise on an American line that is considered one of the more formal ones around. However, that said, if you want to wear it, go and 'knock em dead'!

We are just about to go on our 10th cruise. We have sailed with Thomson, NCL and Princess and ladies wear on formal nights usually goes from trousers with a sparkly, top, cocktail type dresses right up to the full ballgown. Wear whatever you feel good in thats all that matters
