I can see that you are recovering (pleased to say). If these prices still have 15% wacked on them, they appear rather expensive. I know we've banged on about this interminably but it's enough to put me off another Royal Caribbean cruise.
Off on OV soon and the forum and reviews say that prices are similar to pub prices here, which means we can drink twice at much for our pennies/dollars.
        Thanks Wilba for the info.

Does anyone out there know just what currency RCL use to price their drinks. We are booked to go with them from UK back to UK in July on Jewel of the Seas. After reading some of the other comments, we are now thinking of cancelling due to high cost of drinks & the 15% gratuity surcharge on top. Also, does anyone know what the tipping rate is per person?

The posts go on and on criticising drink prices on RCCL.In fact in many cases they are cheaper than in a 4 star hotel and certainly with better suroundings, not to mention the free entertainment.Drinks purchased from the Bar are served as open measures (apart from Beer) and quite often they are 3 times the measure as is found in GB pubs.In spite of all the moans from a alcohol crazy UK it is interesting to note that bookings are firm for "Independence" this coming summer. That says it all.

Tasmania,Not all Drink prices on RCCL are the same it all depends on the itenary and other factors. When crossing the Atlantic from Europe prices are in tune to that particular area and are not too bad.But of course the best always costs a little more. Is the issue of Drinks such a big deal for you.The "Jewel" is one of the best ships in the fleet and the voyage should not be missed.

All liquor is subject to a 15% service charge. Wines purchased by the bottle or "Wine Package" from your dining room waiter will also incur this charge even though you are expected to give him a gratuity.
Gratuity Guidlines in US Dollars per day, as provided by RCL are:
Dining Room Waiter $3.50, Assistant Waiter $2.00, Head Waiter - at your discretion,
                  Stateroom Attendant $3.50.
Rather than handing over cash, gratuities may be prepaid on board and charged to your onboard account in exchange for vouchers, at the Purser's Office.

RCL offer three Wine Packages each for 5, 7, 10 and 12 bottles. I shall quote you the price for 10 bottles:- Diamond US$274, Platinum US$250, Gold US$226. All prices subject to 15% gratuity charge. The difference is greater choice, with Diamond and Platinum offering more than Gold. Interestingly, the wines in Gold also feature in the other two.
You can check your ability to purchase prior to travel by entering the Royal Caribbean website. Click onto - Before you board /Pre-Cruise planner/Food and drink reservations/Wine packages. You will be asked to enter your name, reservation number, ship and departure date. Good luck!
