    Norwalk Virus

Last week I was at the International Association of Food Protection Conference in Ede, The Netherlands and attended a wacky presentation by an equally wacky American Professor.

    1st link is the song

Food Safety Music: Music: A Case of Norwalk

2nd link is powerpoint that you click along with the word to the next slide!

What a great way to remind us of cruise hygiene and health risks. This brings me to another point - has anyone cruised with Princess lately? I have just returned from 24 days on the Golden Princess and was amazed (and appauled) by the lack of hand sanitisers in restaurants and other 'eateries' and on embarkation. We mentioned it to the Maitre de in the Bernini restaurant (thinking it was a temporary oversight) and he was quite off-hand with us "we don't need to use it here - we serve you!". He clearly doesn't understand the risks of cross-contamination from items such as salt and pepper pots, milk jugs, arms of chairs etc. etc. Is this typical of Princess? This is the first (and last time I've cruised with them).

          Hi GrandmaLiz,
Yes have cruise with Sea Princess last November and this month on Golden Princess from Los Angeles to Vancouver.
Were you doing the last Hawaii trip then the Los Angeles - Vancouver then the Alaska run on Golden
We were on May 11- 14 , 2011 up the Pacific Coast .

To your question , they did provide the gel sanitizers in the Buffet area when walking in and normally someone was posted to ensure you used them and in the washrooms.
Yes, no dispenser existed in the MDR area when you entered which surprised me as I believe in prior years it was present but I might have confused our trip on Holland America.

You can reply in your email survey they would have sent you or simply write a letter asking as to use your cross-contamination logic then all the bars, entertainment areas , casino should also have them. Al the dishes and cutlery are steam cleaned prior and food is placed on plates with gloves then covered so it is possible CDC considers that safe.
          Fire away your question
