    Another scam?

Yesterday I had a message on FB which appeared to be from cruising friends in Maryland. It informed me that the IMF is distributing money and I could apply for some. It said they had $340k "delivered to the door". Obviously I didn't follow this up, just said I'd ask my financial adviser. They went quiet until this morning when I had a message giving me a number to txt (I didn't). This message must have been sent at around 3.00 a.m. Maryland time. I haven't yet told my friends about this as they are quite elderly and I don't want to worry them. I have had this message before, also supposed to be from an Ametican friend.

One of the reason I don’t have FB. I know it serves a purpose for many but there’s so many scams on the go. (Not just on FB of course)

My elderly mum received a scam telephone yesterday saying that if she hadn't authorised the £600 that had just been paid from her bank account, to press 1. Luckily she had the sense to hang up. She did check her accounts and everything was fine but I think pressing 1 would have been very expensive

Not mine, theirs. I just blocked the messages. A post appeared on FB later saying they had been hacked. Everyone should change their passwords every so often.

Not a scam, but I have had several recent emails from my banks that, after legislation, they are increasing the degrees of authentication on internet purchases and I need to establish a new authentication route. This may be a phone call, an e-mail or even an App request for a secret code.

Whilst this is all very laudable, how soon before the scammers send out similar requests that require you to confirm details?

These changes add to the existing need for passwords, card numbers, billing addresses and CVC numbers.

            Cheers

A new cold call today. Again an Asian sounding woman, this time offering to prevent the government taking our house to pay for our care. I had a lost of trouble persuading her that I was not interested and was not going to answer her questions.

Tell them you rent from the government.

Don't waste your time, just tell her to 'go away', although I would be less polite.
