It was always one law for the rich and privileged and an other for the less well off.things haven’t changed much in that respect. The difference is in the punishment, especially for young offenders. Too soft by half. Wouldn’t we be better to follow the US penitentiary model?

I'm not so sure about that. They keep them on death row for years some may have paid the price for what they have done by being in prison for so long and then ended up being put to death. I have never been if favour of capital punishment. I was glad to see it end in England. You can't bring a person back to life when they have been hung if you find out later that they didn't commit the crime can you?

I was not thinking specifically of the death penalty, although in some cases I think it should be mandatory (think Lee Rigby) but of the conditions the criminals enjoy in British gaols. Why should they live better than some of our veteran service men and women?

I agree with that. I would recommend hard labour and the people they have stolen from they should be made to work to pay back what they stole. Rapists should have the treatment to make them not capable of raping anyone else. And murders should be worked till the drop. Any advance on that treatment?

Sounds good to me. Prisons are far too cushy. Our local open prison inmates managed to smuggle in some prostitures. Doesn’t the mind boggle?

And where did the get the money from to pay them with?

              Comment

I have no idea. Smuggled in perhaps or they were paid by someone one the outside. Most of the guys go out to work before release, either voluntary or paid. I suppose they are allowed to keep their wages. Do you think the money is kept for them for when they are released?

People never seem able to steer a course mid way; it's either one way or the diametrically opposite. Years ago my father said that in the future, the good/innocent would be living in prisons andthe criminals would be on ythe streets, and probably kill each other off. A new name to put with Pentonville, Wormwood Scrubs ans Strangeways might be Westminster, and that place is getting full already. one minor problem would be, who would be the Governor?

Well, the previous Speaker comes to mind. But it is probably unfair to single out one. Don’t many of them seem to be genuine, but history proves otherwise?

Maybe it will get like Mexico in England. When you visit Mexico you are kept in a compound for safety reasons and not allowed to stray out of it. Not a very nice way to go for a visit is it. Being kept in a compound for your own safety.

Lots of places like that. Some call them resorts like in Jamaica where you are advised not to stray from the resort area of beach. Wou ld I go under those circumstances? No. I’ve been to Acapulco. Dreadful place ?I did not feel safe until we got into the hills. Where would you not wander? (Excluding UK cities)

Most likely Egypt. Although I have never been but I think you have to have an escort there to be safe. And anywhere where there are polar bears. That makes sense to me what about you?

                          Comment

Yes, when Alan worked in Svalbard (more polar bears than people) his engineer took him out onto the glacier on skidoo’s. He was surprised when she collected a rifle, checked it and slung it over her shoulder. All over Longyearbyen there are signs warning you not to leave the settlement without a fire arm and knowing how to use it. I would not have a clue about guns. Would you?

No and why go shooting Polar Bears when its them in their natural habitat? I wouldn't want them shot if I was a visitor. Its as bad as foreigners coming to England and shooting people. A wicked waste of life.

They do not go out to look for polar bears to shoot, they take the guns in case they are attacked by a bear. Mostly they would shoot in the air first and hope that would deter the bear. As far as polar bears are concerned humans are food. The only hunting is reindeer which are culled in the same way as our herds of deer to take out the old and infirm. In the past the animals swam across the water to summer pasture in Svalbard, now the Norwegian Navy move them. They are important to maintain the flora on the islands. It’s different on the mainland where reindeer are farmed for food. Don’t customs in other countries fascinate you?
