Wonder how many other food companies bend the rules to suit there profit's.
I fairness they have not as yet killed or injured anyone but have broken the law regarding traceability .
Wonder just what some Restaurants get up to with left over food....Taffy

Makes you wonder about other food sources too, Another good reason to use your locally trusted butcher. I also wonder if some of the supermarkets will now scrutinise these factories more before giving them their trade? Jan.

According to ITV news they have had several spot checks over the last year, from Red Tractor and there customers....Taffy

As with many other products we trust food suppliers to be ethical and honest. As shown in the many programmes on food inspection the inspectors can generally spot "unintentional" bad practice including temperature control and poor hygiene practices.

However it is very difficult on an infrequent visit to identify wilful and illegal practices. So to ensure compliance the only way is to visibly punish the offenders.

About 20 years ago a chicken by-product company "cleaned" chickens deemed unfit for human consumption, removed the breasts and returned them to the human food chain. Many processors and butchers then unwittingly bought them. The owners went to prison for several years.

Assuming the evidence is unequivocal then all the suppliers should withdraw their contracts immediately, food inspectors be based in their operations (at their expense) and the top level managers be replaced. Needless to say the owners/Chief Executives should be prosecuted and punished.

The business is a major employer so it shouldn't be closed and once systems are cleansed there seems no reason not to resume supply to supermarkets.

One last point (not surprising for me) but if we were outside the EU I suspect our meat and poultry products would already be embargoed and there would be a dramatic increase in certification requirements. Remember BSE and Foot and Mouth - and we were members then. I see that this is one of the largest UK food companies, so yes the EU would see it as a systemic issue and the UK inspectorate as inadequate.

You have no idea what your local butcher is doing at his own farm and abbatoir and he probably has less audits than the one on TV. It does not matter where you source your food from you are relying on them following regulations................plus a large amount of trust.

That was the problem Andyn and now being reported that M&S plus Aldi and Lidl have suspended deliveries from 2 Sisters.
We do put our trust in lots of things that they are made and supplied according to regulation's only to find some one bent the rules or just ignored them....Taffy
