    Just amazing!

With all the sad news many of us have suffered over the past six months, I should like to pass on some good news.

Last week Isla my thirteen year old grand-daughter, a keen cyclist, completed a 400km cycle ride in four days from Coast to Coast in Scotland. She chose to do the challenge in memory of her Grandad Ken, who sadly passed away during lockdown, after a long battle with Lymphoma.

Isla chose to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support who looked after her Grandad well in his last weeks of life.

Isla was initially hoping to raise £4,000 and over the past few weeks, during the build up to the ride, the fund has risen to £11,000, a fantastic achievement. Isla has had such huge support, she set an ambitious new target of £15,000.

Over the past couple of days Isla has been telling her story to Chris Evans on the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show. During the show today Chris and Virgin Radio agreed to donate £4,000 to Macmillan to ensure Isla achieves her £15,000 target. It was a great surprise and a huge shock when Chris announced the news on the programme.

I am very proud of all my four grandchildren, but immensely proud of Isla, she has put in many weeks of training in preparation for the epic ride and she’s only a wee Scottish lass.

Isla is back to school today in the Highlands.

    Thanks for reading. Jan

It's almost a rite of passage for the old to slag off the young but there's some pretty darned good young uns about and this young lady is clearly one of them. Great stuff. Well done.

Thanks Moonraker for your kind comments. Her mum, my daughter-in-law is a teacher and last year she look a school trip to a very deprived area of Africa. After Isla saw photos of children living in poverty, she raised £2,000 to send books to schools in the deprived areas. Isla is a very inspirational and thoughtful young lady.
