    Home exchange holidays

Has anyone experienced a home exchange ?

It would be interesting to know your stories both good and bad .

We would like to vacation somewhere in Europe for 6 months to enable us to do a few cruises from there.

Having done research on global exchanges I find the descriptions do not always live up to the photographs! Quaint cottages seem to be converted cowsheds hundreds of miles from anywhere !

The trouble with that is you will be going away frequently for 1 - 2 wks leaving the 'swap' empty and it will probably be difficult for people to insure their house in those circumstances. Why not research what you want to see and what cruises leave from where. Then work out where it would be handy to spend some time.
I think you will find that renting a holiday apartment for a couple of weeks in Barcelona (for the western med, Italy, France Spain) then Athens (for the Eastern Med Isles, Turkey, Egypt, Greece and Croatia) followed by southern England (for the Baltic, British Isles, Norway and Iceland) will do the trick! The time you then spend in each area with your hire car will provide a welcome change of pace and a more detailed 'look' at the country you are staying in.
Hope that helps. Either way - Happy new Year.

Thank you Macro , good thinking.

Perhaps secretly I would prefer to live in Europe but the weather is discouraging and adult children live here .

We need a pied a terre somewhere. Oh and a private jet would be useful.

My mother always prophesied I would come down to earth one day !
