    Jersey here we come

Since the cancellation of our holiday to Kos due to go next Wednesday we have been searching for something to replace it. I don't really fancy another cruise to nowhere as we already have one booked for August. Looked at various UK hotel options and have decided on a week in Jersey. It's almost 40 years since I was there and husband has never been. Flying from our local airport will be so easy, less than one hour away. Hotel sounds good. 2 heated outdoor pools and evening entertainment. Has cost an arm and a leg but not a lot to choose from. Hoping we get there with the traffic light system they have in place.

    We LOVE Jersey.
Used to go twice a year before school holidays dictated our dates. We're still members of the zoo which we joined over thirty years ago. Same hotel [St Brelades Bay], same rooms, met the same people year on year, we made the same trips out to Elizabeth Castle and the lighthouse etc and always the air show in September. When the Red Arrows flew in to the airport the day before, we told our very young son their rather dramatic landing [always done with a R.A. flourish] was just for him.
Always had the best lobster dinners whilst in Jersey. Pre-order, have it cold with salad and Marie Rose dipping sauce. Pure food of the Gods.

Great choice. Fingers crossed for you the States Government allow incomers from the UK.

I stayed in St Brelades Bay last time. We cycled all around the island with kids on the back. We are on the outskirts of St Helier this time. I will be having some lobster.

'The Bay' [as St Brelades Bay Hotel is fondly known as] is one of the best situated hotels on the island. We had adjoining rooms overlooking the bay. Wonderful times. We aim to go back next year. Lobsters here I come.

Just don't test positive while there, not coming home till negative under Jersey rules.

I am sticking to places I can get in a car to come home.

We were in Jersey on the 50th anniversary of their liberation from German occupancy.
I hired a Mini Metro for a week and petrol was 50p a gallon as we had gone over on the Fastcat from Poole as foot passengers.
                  Boy can that thing shift.
My OH had her picture taken with the car from Bergerac.
There was a parade of WW2 vehicles along the seafront followed by a fly past of the Battle of Britain flight and then aerobatics by the Red Arrows.
In the evening there was a massive firework display.

The best food we had on the island was at the restaurant at the airport of all places.

A great weeks holiday on a wonderful little island

Another thumbs up for Jersey. I went as a young man and it took me some 30 years to return. Not too much has changed. They have built a few new hotels, yet closed many small ones and B&Bs. Its not as exotic to people as it was in the Bergerac era. Therefore it is less crowded.

what hotel have you booked ilovesunshine?

...I also reccomended the Isle of Man. Its a little less commercial, more old fashioned than Jersey, complete with horse drawn trams and a steam train line.

But not at the moment...it's basically closed to visitors.

We have been a few times to Jersey, our favourite hotel is Radisson Blu..( it was newly built when we went...) also stayed at Pomme d'or, Hotel de France and The Best Western Royal Hotel... Jersey is lovely and has fabulous sea food restaurants.
I imagine you are flying from Robin Hood airport Sue, fab airport and so handy...

We like the Boat House at St Aubins, been there several times...
Also my husband loved the oysters at Bistro Rosa, at the fish market. We ate several times at fish restaurants on Bath St ( I think,..) where the bronze cow statues are
We were totally spoilt for choice with restaurants. Would recommend the sea food platter or a crab sandwich at the Crab Shack at St Brelades..
Also we tried the Chateubriande at the Quayside at St Helier. Beautiful, but too much..
It's a lovely island but I never felt it felt 'abroad' enough but was nice as a break in between holidays. Not sure we would go back, we did like Guernsey, in a different way.
We are happy to be going away this week to a place near Thirsk.. Good old Yorkshire 😊

Sounds fab. I like Bergerac. They should bring it back. Better than some of the rubbish on now.

It will be exotic to me after being confined to our village for 15 months!
We have booked Westhill county Hotel. Set in 5 acres of grounds with a heated outdoor pool and evening entertainment. Reviews are all very good. We have opted for half board as don't want the hassle of having to book restaurants for our evening meals. Under normal circumstances we would have preferred b&b but not sure how busy local restaurants will be or even if they are open. Just crossing our fingers we get there and more travel restrictions are not implemented on Monday.
