He obviously missed the training session on where the mute button is.

Not everyone responds the same way or recovers the same way. Unless you are his doctor you wouldn't know if he was fit to return.

It is not like a simple cold or even the flu so little wonder Boris is still in recovery mode after he was extremely ill.
Even doctors don't know how long it takes some people to recover. This is a very new virus and they are still learning about it. 8 weeks is a guess.

Where was he when he missed 5 Cobra meetings early in this emergency,,,,taking a 2 week holiday at Chevening,is government pile in the countryside.

When the Times and Daily (hate) Mail are starting to criticise the governments response to this pandemic you know things are not right.

He was probably leaving it in the hands of his senior ministers to deal with. Cobr meetings do not have to be attended by the Prime Minister, that is why he has a Health Minister to deal with Health issues and I am sure he would be kept in the loop. Some people think he should split himself into 10 pieces and be everywhere at once and is not able to take any break.

All those that criticise - I wonder if these armchair critics could do any better - probably not. The sheer scale of this issue is massive and the ramping up to unprecedented demand in all areas has been eye popping and even the army involved. Our NHS has not been overwhelmed and we have spare capacity due to the government's ability to scale up. When you look at how other countries are struggling and overwhelmed then we are managing OK.

            Hi lucy
I can't believe you just posted 'we are managing OK',,,,,we have been behind the curve every step of the way.
Gorden Brown attended every Cobra meeting for MCD,,,,,,,BJ is lazy,,,,it's not that he just missed Cobra meetings,,e
he went on a 2 week holiday just as the biggest health emergency was about to hit this country.

This Was a man who bragged about shaking hands whilst a deadly virus was killing people across the channel.

This was a man wasting 2 weeks seriously considering herd immunity with his idiot advisor DC.
This was a man who said 'We can't have a lockdown, our new voters in the North won't like us shutting their pubs'.

He was more interested in Boris means Brexit than preventing deaths,.
This was a man who rejected EU help in the supply of PPE.
Here was a man who ignored world advice to test-isolate and trace,,,,,now 3 weeks later they say we need to test-isolate and trace.

As a health professor said the other day about this government of which BJ is leader 'Where does incompetence end and criminal negligence begin?'

I fear BJ will go down in history as the worst PM this country has ever had,a man seriously not up to the job.

              Hi jc

Just to put you right about the EU and the PPE ...

              Andrew Neil@afneil
Row rumbles on over why UK did not participate in EU PPE procurement schemes. Reasons given by UK are all over the place. But, perhaps more pertinent, no PPE has yet been procured by this Brussels programme.

Just as well we didn't rely on them...

Didn't think we were ever relying on them. It was just another option, the sensible thing to do when people are dying is keep all options open. We are still going to need a lot more PPE.

                  Hi Garf
Maybe the individual countries bought their own,and didn't need the EU scheme.

If they did it was there for them,,,,,.so the point stays the same.

The government has changed the story 3 times why they didn't ask to join the scheme, that makes me smell a rat.
Last week they applied, but the scheme was shut........Shambles!!!

Btw,,there was an article today quoting British companies saying they are exporting PPE because the government never replied to their offers.
Its no good government saying they accept lower standards abroad,,,they have just imported 83te of the stuff from Turkey....Shambles!!

They have put in an order fot £1.3billion, so to date they haven't got any but it is likely they will and we we aren't included. We are going to need PPE for quite a while to come. Closing down an option whether or not it comes to fruition, when people (key workers, who we were out clapping) are dying is sheer incompetence at best

And we'd had lost a lot more lives if we'd have to wait until now for them to start ordering PPE so no it's not funny....it's deadly serious.

                            Edit.
The EU has warned some of it's member states that ventilators could take up to a year to be delivered.

But we wouldn't be waiting, we would be in exactly the same position as we are now, but with the added possibilty of the EU order next week.
It is just another option, when peoples lives depend on your decisions keep all options open.

Scotland had a delivery of 10 million masks last weekend and a further 10 million masks has arrived.
