    Warning

I have just received the following message in my mail. It looks ultra-genuine but:-----------

"We are sorry to let you know that the TV License could not be automatically renewed. Something's gone wrong with your payments.

You will need to set up your new Direct Debit.

To change your payment method, have a look at all your options. So, all you need to do is make sure there's enough money in your account. Or , if you prefer to pay the missed amount now, you can sign in online and pay using your debit or credit card. While you're signed in, please make sure we have your correct bank details."

    Have you seen it? .......Neil

Or it could, of course in this case, originate from a country which uses license as both verb and noun!

I think most of those of us who receive the hoax messages will get messages about accounts with whom we have no account. It is just a "blind thrust". They will get a result from someone though.

My hunting posts often include "Paypal". Never used it!

Problem is that I have never heard of any of these "Spammers" taken to court (Maybe I read the wrong press).....Neil

I never answer calls from unidentified callers on my mobile and my answering machine screens my landline.

I've also had the TV license scam and it was swiftly deleted. Today I got a call on my mobile, ironically asking if I frequently received nuisance calls! Well, their number is blocked from now on 🚫

Yes, had that one. Yesterday I got a phone call supposedly from a magazine I subscribe to wanting to discuss my renewal. The caller was a very pleasant sounding woman. I told her she needed to call back as I was busy. I then blocked the number. I know it was a scam as I have renewed my subscription recently. On the same day I received an email from Vietnam with an attachment, which, had I opened it, would no doubt have had unpleasant consequences. Recently HMRC had a tax refund waiting for me. Allegedly. There's no end to this. I'm pretty savvy, but there's always the risk of being caught unawares.

My daughter was visiting yesterday and had a call on her mobile.
He knew her name and address. He said something about the national lottery, that she had been selected to receive some free tickets..... after a long conversation about what she would do with any winnings he then started to get round to saying that to continue with this scheme? he was offering it would only cost £12 per week. Obviously it would have then come to wanting her bank details.
Fortunately she is very savvy and with prompting from me cut short the call.... after saying she would not decline the free? tickets. I have not heard of this one.... Has anyone?

This is so obviously a scam, but if I have any doubts, I bung them through Snopes.

It is an obvious scam but if ever in doubt, always check on Hoax Slayer. I use it all the time. https://www.hoax-slayer.net/tv-licen...ng-scam-email/

It is like a garden perennial.

Fortunately most of these emails are junked by my ISP.
