A few photos from a converted non-believer of River Cruising

When I was first asked to go on a River Cruise, I said that I didn't really think that it was for me. I love my Ocean cruising and all the on board facilities, and I didn't think that a river cruise would appeal to me at all. However, I really enjoyed this trip and the ports of call. The Serenade 1 was nowhere near as basic as I had originally thought it would be - OK, the gym probably should not exist as it's very basic: A rowing machine and a couple of bikes.

Having asked quite a few of the passengers on board what their opinions were, the majority said that they wished the cruise was longer than 3 days, and everyone that I spoke to, said they would definitely be doing another one next year. Personally, I don't think that I would travel overland again to join a river cruise as it is such a long journey. I would prefer to use those travelling days as cruising days.
Overall, I was very impressed with my first ever river cruise - They won't replace my ocean cruising, but I will be doing river cruising again, and I really didn't think that I would say that when I was writing my first forum posting on here!

Presumably some of the river cruises they do could be reached using Eurostar which might be faster and more comfortable for those not wishing to fly?

3 nights - just as when you've settled comfortably, it's time to pack and leave.

Was that part of the package, Debbie? I assume that it kept the fare lower?

Yes Malcolm - the package that we had was for coach travel from regional UK departure points. We made our own way to Dover, as there wasn't a pick up point for the Midlands on this particular cruise. Obviously coach travel comes at a more competitive price than with flights, but as Trevor suggested, Eurostar can also be an option on many river cruises. And yes Taffy and Able Seaman, it did feel as though no sooner had we unpacked then it was time to pack again - but a wonderful experience.
