Looks like they have had great weather also JC.

My Dad is doing an around the UK cruise next month, I think with Celebrity, and Liverpool is one of the ports of call. I joked that he could go and do a 'proper' stadium tour at Anfield while there, he laughed but he is a City fan.

IKEA is good, and you can at least get Swedish meatballs and chips at a very competitive price. But I guess the delights of Bootle and Fazakerly also have much to offer? Not forgetting a plate of old scowse. Pompey is not much of a place to call at these days, in days gone by you could at least see the navy ships. These days it's just the Gosport Ferry and Nelsons old boat. Southampton is close to the new Forest (a magnificent place) Stonehenge, Winchester, and many other delights. Steam trains at The Watercress line, and many more attractions await you Northerners.
Harwich is o/k if you are a 40' container, but maybe thats a personal view?.

Probably enough here to make the Northern types jealous of us posh lot?

What a load of cobblers..Portsmouth is the premier visitor centre on the South Coast.
All the places you mention are outside Southampton...and that's the best place to be...outside.

                  HI All

                  Can I join in??

I flew into SOTON in order to reach Winchester.

You call that an airport?? The baggage collection reminded me of the airport near the Victoria Falls in Africa.

I will confess to spending no more than 5 minutes in SOTON.

I will try not to be mortally offended!

Portsmouth is obviously of note because I was born there, and bred in and around the area.

There is plenty to see and do in the Historic Dockyard. Southsea is a lovely seaside resort, and not brash like some. We also have Charles Dickens Birthplace.

I can't speak for Southampton, because I only really go there for shopping. And, of course, to board ship.

The local airport is just that, a useful local airport.

Nothing to write home about but equally, nothing to knock.

Felixstowe is the container port, which is just across the water, although a 40 mile drive if you go by road, Harwich is the Cruise & Ferry Port.

Looking across firstly to Shotley Point Suffolk, which used to be home of RNTE Shotley, known in the Royal Navy as HMS Ganges, it was a naval training establishment at Shotley, near Ipswich in Suffolk. Starting in 1905, it trained boys for naval service until it closed in 1976, following the raising of the school leaving age from 15 to 16.
