Crystal adds Libya to Mediterranean cruise season

Crystal Cruises has announced that it is adding the Libyan capital city of Tripoli to its Mediterranean cruise programme this autumn.

Travellers will be able to visit the destination during a cruise on Italian Splendor, which will begin on November 16th.

The addition of Tripoli will allow holidaymakers to experience what some people consider "the last unspoiled country in north Africa", according to Crystal.

Bill Smith, the cruise line's senior vice-president of sales and marketing, described Libya as "enigmatic, exotic and incredibly rich in history".

"Providing a rare glimpse into this Middle Eastern nation will add tremendous depth to travellers' experiences of ancient corners of the world," added Mr Smith.

"With over a thousand miles of Mediterranean coastline to the north, Egypt to the east and central Africa to the south, Libya is truly a crossroads of cultures, past and present, which no world traveller should miss."

The 11-day voyage will start and end with overnight stays in Venice and Barcelona and visit destinations such as Dubrovnik, Sicily, Naples, Civitavecchia and Livorno.
