Green Card - driving in Europe

Just had an e-mail through from my insurance.Might be worth checking for anyone planning a road trip. Especially as it says it has to be posted. Although what date is anyone's guess.

Your insurance automatically covers you to drive your vehicle in the EU, plus Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra and Serbia. Please check your details on the level of cover you have abroad. However, the UK's due to leave the EU on 29th March 2019 and, if there's a no deal Brexit, you may also need a Green Card from this date if you plan to drive your vehicle abroad. A Green Card is an international certificate of insurance that you present when arriving at a European border to prove you're insured to drive. This includes driving between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

How Green Cards work They're a green paper document issued by your insurer that has your registration and other details. They're usually valid for 15 days but can be extended. You could be breaking the law if you drive in the EU without one and you risk facing a fine and/or having your vehicle seized. You can't download a Green Card so they must be posted to your home address. If you plan to tow a caravan or trailer, you may need a second Green Card.

You always used to have to have one, so no big deal really, as long as people are made aware. All insurers should be telling their policyholders.

I recvd an Emergency Notification this week from Celebrity informing UK guests of the need to have 6 months remaining on their passports in the event of Brexit as we are sailing from ,too,Dublin and Cork.

Also a reminder that health insurance is vital as the EHIC card will be invalid in a EU country.
