Family Hotel / Accomodation between Oxford & Southampton

[ROSEBASKETS, Yorkshire]

I've a few extra days off between finishing work and cruising from Southampton in late July. Does anyone have any recommendations where a family of 4 might stay (either hotel or B&B) for 2 or 3 nights after Oxford en route to Southampton rather than just the Travelodge, Premier, Holiday or Days Inns.

Norton Park at Winchester is really nice and they do a DBB rate. If you don't want to go quite that far then the Regency Park Hotel at Newbury is lovely and leaves about an hour and a quarter to Southampton. Also does offers, enquire when you book..Carol

Slightly off track, you could head to Bournemouth, loads of Hotels, Beach for the kids & your about 45 minutes drive to Soton..

Have you been to Winchester? Lots of attractions in the City and nearby e.g. Marwell Zoo.

You did mention B&B's, friends of friends stayed at this one and raved about it. It also has free parking, whereas many Hotels in Winchester charge, that's if they have a car park! It is a Boutique B&B but very reasonable prices & they have a Family Room.

It has rave reviews on Trip Advisor & you can walk into Winchester, a bonus as parking in the City can be difficult and expensive.

There are loads of places to eat in Winchester, to suit all pockets and tastes.

Orchard House B&B in Winchester has good reviews and they offer a family room. Little Mead B&B in Sparsholt Winchester also offer a family room. Winchester is a lovely place with many highly recommended B&B's, but they can be quite expensive.

It's not the attractions or activities that interest me. We drive to any attractions or places of interest. I like to stay in pleasant surroundings with a warm welcome. I like to support local businesses and the self employed rather than the chains. I don't mind paying a little extra and waiting for a cooked breakfast rather than the scrum of a buffet or the blandness of rooms and breakfasts at the big hotels. To be fair the beds are usually comfier and the sheets better laundered in some B&B's, I'd rather have a window that actually opens more than an inch and be awoken by birdsong rather than traffic noise or inconsiderate guests, but hey, that's just me!

Peak House Farm in Whitchurch, Hampshire may be worth a look. Rural surroundings and a short drive from the A34.

I stayed in a B&B just outside Winchester a few years ago. Initially I had intended to stay in Winchester but I thought B&Bs were quite pricey. Most definitely not a chain and breakfast is cooked to order. I am sure he even ironed the newspaper before I was given it to read at breakfast

Some lovely suggestions there, thank you very much. Unfortunately the ones I would choose to stay at are all fully booked. Its like every small business I know the best are always extremely busy or full months in advance.
