No idea what the cruise line does. We pay grats upfront...so as to get Select dining....or as on the last cruise the grats were all free. But we give out envelopes at the end of the cruise to thank them for good service and they all get the same.

That said, I had no particular British cruiseline in mind..............Wilba
Hi Wilba I just think its a Company philosophy ,one just want's to do enough ,the other aims to be the best?
All these cruise lines are USA owned P&O and Cunard both being under the Carnival umbrella .
Just looked at the Celebrity Tipping policy it use to break down who got what IE Room Steward $3 Assistant Room Steward $2 pd it now just gives an indication as to where the money goes not how much everyone gets....Taffy

        From Celebrities Web site
$12.95 per person per day for guests in standard staterooms, $13.45 per person per day for guests in Concierge Class and AquaClassSM staterooms and $16.45 per person per day for guests in Suites.

It gives no indication as to how much anyone gets...Taffy

I did the same on QM2 last week , I pulled the sheets and mattress topper off to check the bed brand and it was all pristine. Cunard have the most comfortable beds in my opinion and the pillows are fabulous. I did find this link last year. Might go and check it out as in need of new bedding

I have requested pillow changes in a hotel abroad once before; they stank of smoke and it was disgusting

I read a few weeks ago Cunard QM2 are changing their mattresses. This happened when we were on board three years ago. All mattresses were taken off in Walvis Bay. Locals took them away and we all hoped some good charity had received them.

The only thing I would say there Taffy is admittedly P&O are under Carnival, they are still very British in the eyes of Americans as are Costa still very much an Italian brand, albeit under the same umbrella.

In other words how many Americans cruise P&O?

              Not a lot..........Wilba

In my opinion Cunard and Celebrity have the most comfortable beds and linens. I hope those removed mattresses all found good homes, it would be a shame to throw away any decent ones..Carol

I don't understand, why, when you strip the bed and mattress if they are 'soiled' in any way, they don't get changed there and then.
After all accidents do happen, may-be they have to go through a long process, and don't want to spend the time doing it.

Wilba, my first cruise with P&O was in 2010, and I don't remember having 2 stewards, then or at any other time..........................................Caro l

I saw this post on FB, and replied to it.
I think I mentioned on here in years gone by, that twice on Ventura I've had a pillow where the foam granules had fused together by frequent washing...each time they were replaced by brand new ones. Since then I usually take my own pillow, but the last cruise on Ventura, the pillows were filled with a different padding, and were very clean.
I cannot remember where I heard it, on here or FB, that the housekeeper on P&O said that pillows were washed after 12 uses. Nowadays it's something I check on ships and in hotels

Like some others I do not check the pillows or mattress. As long as the sheets and pillowcases are clean then I'm happy after all that's the bit my body/head touch not what's underneath.
don't want to work, just want to cruise.

I think my wife changes pillows when she feels like it but we do have pillow covers on them which are washed frequently and they are only used by us. The mattress gets changed once in a blue moon but again, it has a cover on it and is only used by us. I think it's a lot different if various people use them every one or two weeks and you don't know anything about their personal hygene habits.
