I took the anti-viral gel and foam with me in the AZURA. I showed the person at the grill I was using this and he said that he wished more people would use it. At the main dining room no gels were provided. Maybe this is because all food is only touched by spoons, tongs etc by the staff. The buffet did have the gel but not at gangways. Took my gel everywhere with me including ashore.

A family seems to be immune to each other in terms of sharing items like keyboards, mouses. Our toilet is a TOTO , sounds like and flushes like a toilet an air plane, low flush and no spray. I at time will take cleanser to the seats and surroundings especially for guests visiting, aside from weekly bowl cleaners.

Grandchildren are a whole different equation.
On HA they have Gel dispensers in the dining rooms and toilets but a lot of people will not pause on entering dining room to take a blip on their hands

On the Gem they have crew members standing near the door to check that you sanitize on entering. One day we took our plates out on deck. I needed to go back in a number of times and EACH time the girl would make me sanitize

I always pay a visit to the toilet before I enter buffet or restaurant and use paper towel to open door etc. but always take the gel too in restaurant/buffet. Have to say that the gel though can be very drying on the hands and I incidentally discovered recently that it can take a lady's nail varnish off!

It always amazes me how people go about how they use the antiseptic gel, how they open the doors with a paper towel, I have yet to witness anybody doing this, I am amazed how many walk past the machines and not use them, How many without thinking maybe use there mobile or surf the net or put there hands on a bar where other people have been, how many have coughed, sneezed, had a scratch on the skin,,,,,

Then to cap it all there was a report that beansprouts caused a virus,,,,whatever you see or touch has a bug of some sort ,, not just from the toilet,

Just remember when your waiting to go for ur meal after using the toilet, then shaking hands with someone, touching your clothes, hands on glass, was it really wort it using the paper in the toilet to opem the door

Point taken Brian, there are germs everywhere. How many of us are able to wash our hands or lay our hands on a tissue when we're out and about and we sneeze or cough? I reckon someone comes on board with a tummy bug, that's the cause of an outbreak. The human body must have resistance to all sorts of nasties otherwise we'd all be dead !

Give her a reward for ensuring her and our health is fine for the cruise. Doing her job

My wife would wonder if I had been putting varnish on the balcony rails or using hers Course she might wonder about my choice of taste as I sometimes nibble my nails when hungry or nervous.

I've just returned from a cruise on Celebrity's Eclipse and there were hand gels at the entrances to all dinning areas, casino, gangplanks, etc. also all their public toilets opened via an automatic press button. however I do think people can get so paranoid about germs. we do have and have hopefully built up an immune system, which as the advert says, can kill all known germs dead!! ;)

I have been on nine cruises in all and like you from the first cruise have always experienced a strange taste with the coffee.
I have always put it down to the water and as a result tend to drink bottled water throughout the cruises.
After the first cruise i took my own coffee but still found that the taste was the same is this a comman problem

It is much more likely to be the water than the gel. The fresh (i.e. drinking) water is usually brought on ship in bottles, but any water that's going to be heated is usually produced on board from seawater - most of the cruise ships have their own desalination equipment. Even though it's perfectly safe to drink (even wthout being boiled), desalinated water does have a slightly odd aftertaste. We stayed on one of our last shore-based holidays in Fuerteventura, and all the drinking water was desalinated (the bathroom water wasn't - blechhh!), and it had the same taste - sort of metallic and slightly bitter.
