I have been on nine cruises in all and like you from the first cruise have always experienced a strange taste with the coffee.
I have always put it down to the water and as a result tend to drink bottled water throughout the cruises.
After the first cruise i took my own coffee but still found that the taste was the same is this a comman problem

Maybe individual tongs should be introduced so passengers can collect them with their trays. A couple of thousand sets of cheap plastic tongs should not cost much?

Even tap water tastes different as you go around the country

A novel idea I know but I utilize the cutlery I'm going to use when I eat. I also get the slice of tomato that's the furthest away, hoping no one has picked it up and had a close inspection before putting it back! I've done this for ages.

                  Thanks for that tip!
Love buffets, but I'm used to eating in school canteens, so must have a hardened stomach!

I always go for the middle slice of tomato/cucumber, middle sandwich etc because they stay fresh and have not been touched. If it's desserts, I like to start a new gateau or pie if possible. It probably doesn't make a scrap of difference but I feel better about it.

Funny that, I always take that piece but put it back as it looks like others have picked it up.

Same goes for the middle sandwich, I put the outside stale one back in it's place. but the middle ones worse.

No problem - I'm sure there wouldn't be any infections coming out of Basingstoke. I did have a sandwich once with "inspected by Tenpin" written on it but that must have been a coincidence.

Totally agree, Mother Goose - we are being sanitised out of existence. I remember reading an article a couple of years ago about a guy who used to go on a lot of expeditions, and experimented eating slightly out of date food, and going on to well out of date food, his theory being that it built up his immune system. On his next expedition he was the ONLY person not affected by severe stomach/bowel disorders. He joked that he felt quite guilty about this, so kept going behind a tree and pretending to be suffering. Apparently he continued this practice for a few years and always kept well.

Did he get arrested for going behind trees. The local dog warden gives you a fine if you don't poop scoop ;) :D

Thats a good idea for more revenue on the good ship 'Spartan' They could be bought in cheap, but think of the mark up! Have someone at the start of the buffet queue and NO-ONE gets in without purchasing them. Carol.

Yes, issue them to everyone, but will they use them (properly)??

98.765% likely will -but there are still those that walk among us
who will opt to fiddle the odd bit with their fingers
(far easier and more convenient, U must admit).

                                ..............................................

I think this matter will eventually get sorted (give it another year or two?)
by permanently having staff standing by, to handle the serving tongs!

Paying passengers won't ever again touch publicly-used tongs.

You'll point out to the serving staff what/how much of which dish you'd like
-staff places it on your plate!

They do this already, when an outbreak occurs.
So why wait for an outbreak?
                                The solution seems clear, no?
