    Rude Princesses by the pool

don't you just love it when some pompous woman who is sitting near the pool complains that she has just been splashed by children who are having fun! What does she expect? I had this experience on a Holland America ship and thought a minority of the guests completely " up themselves ". Put me off travelling with this line ever again! On the same cruise I was strolling on the promenade deck, felt like having a rest on a chair for a few minutes, and another passenger comes out of her balcony cabin, saying "get off - this is my lounger"! I was a utterly stunned and lost for words. Never come across such rude behaviour. do passengers on Holland America feel they are privileged in some way? I would like to know, but expect they are too posh to reply!

    Hi Foxylady.
We sailed with HAL for the first time last year on the Eurodam. We didn't come across any unsociable behaviour at all. In fact we made friends with quite a few people. One couple from Germany were very good company in particular. I have to admit that the crew were the happiest we've encountered in 20 years of cruising. We liked HAL's product. They've worked hard in raising their standards and deserve their 'premium' rating. We used to be Celebrity regulars but of late we've noticed their standards have been dropping and they don't deserve their 'premium' rating.

The only unsocial behaviour we've come across has been with Royal Caribbean.

    Cheers OSD
Our cruising days are over now.................

I don’t think you should judge a cruise line by their passengers. On every ship we’ve sailed on I’m afraid to admit there’s at least one person I come across that would never be on my Christmas card list. Just try avoid those people and carry on with YOUR holiday.

Sadly you see this sort of behaviour on most of the ship's we have sailed on.
One old whiner was complaining about there being "children" on the ship and they should not be allowed, He seemed lost for words when I pointed out it was a family ship ,not adult only,Why did he book it ?
Not much better on the Adult only ship's they still have issues to moan about.such as I usually sit there "Oh did you" and just turn away...Taffy

You just had an unfortunate incident. I have only sailed on HAL twice but thoroughly enjoyed myself both times and luckily did not have your experience.

I wouldn't let it put me off using the line again, rude people are just rude, nothing to do with being on HAL...Carol

We have only been on one Holland America cruise and doubt we will go again. We didnt have problems with rude passengers, just the staff. We were on second sitting for dinner and we were chatting with our fellow diners after finishing our meal. It wasn't late and some tables had passengers who were still eating. Our waiter interrupted our conversation and asked us all to leave so he could set up for breakfast. Apart from that incident we didn't enjoy the cruise at all. The food was awful apart from the speciality restaurants which had to pay to use to get a decent meal. Our cabin was filthy, I had to ask for it to be cleaned. Lots of other things not right too. HAL not for us.

There are people who like a good moan, regardless of line, ship or nationality and who wish to find fault with anything. If I'd had £1 for everytime I've heard "It isn't like this on P&O" I'd be rich. I wouldn't let a few whinging passengers put you off if you otherwise enjoyed things

I've encountered several examples of rude and boorish behaviour on cruise ships and as others have said it's not restricted to any particular cruise line or nationality. In my experience, however, it has often been older passengers who have transgressed. I say unfortunately because that happens to be my age group. The manners they expect of others are sadly lacking from themselves.
