Wowsers! That must be a blast from the past for some members of the forum. Does anyone on here remember sailing on the old Canberra? We started our cruising adventures in 2008 for our 25th wedding anniversary on the Island Star. She was a bit tired, but we had such a wonderful time we’re still in love with cruising.

    Take care. Helen🛳

I'm pretty sure I was on that cruise!
Loved the Canberra very happy memories of sailing on her.
Remember playing cricket with my Dad against the officers ,him winning the greasy pole competition and enjoying the Teen disco!
I had a single cabin that wasn't much bigger than a broom cupboard with the bathroom down the hall.
Ship had loads of character though.

philhar, wallasey How wonderful. I have a whole file in pristine condition following a declutter of some of my ageing mothers stuff. Looks like the itinerary was Southampton, Lisbon, Funchal, Las Palmas, Tenerife and Ponta Delgada before returning home.

Ah sorry now you mention the itinerary I must have been on the cruise before. I was definitely on her in August 1977, but it was Lisbon Gibraltar, Naples and other Med ports.
Must be a good trip down memory lane for your Mum.

philhar, wallasey Yes indeed. Mum is 93 now and remembers it very well. She kept every piece of paperwork and it is certainly making fascinating reading. I'll have to post some shots of the daily menus....very much "of their time".

That's amazing, and how lovely to have as a keepsake. I think I've thrown all ours away, although we are relatively new to cruising, our first one was 12 years ago!!
