I'm going on QE on Saturday, they haven't said they are delayed.

Apparently the people that should have joined on the Saturday are getting OBC ...................................Carol

Yes, saw it's a bit windy. But I don't understand why Elizabeth can dock and Iona can't. Unless mine gets delayed at the last minute!! ................................Carol

Port owners and ship owners have maximum wind speeds that they will allow ships to dock. Perhaps Iona being several decks higher than QE has a lower max. wind speed for safe docking. No one wants a big ship causing damage and blocking access to berths etc.

Forecast for Southampton on Saturday morning is strong winds and sleet with temps. at 3 - 4 deg C

            Gale warnings have been issued

Gales around all coasts except possibly Dover

I am glad I am not 'driving' in it.

What I tried to post earlier:

This is why they pay the Master 'big bucks'.

QE has overtaken Iona in the Bay of Biscay.

Just think of the two cruise ships as a Ford Fiesta and a high sided HGV. Which one would you find easier to park??

Carol, I hope you have an enjoyable cruise, weather permitting. Best to pack your pressure wrist bands and sea sickness tablets, it could be a bumpy ride.

                      Hi all
Latest winds at Southampton,,I believe above 35knts is the critical wind speed for docking.

From what I have seen of it most drivers of high sided HGV's can park much better than many drivers of Ford Fiestas.

She would have trouble docking in my garden at the minute.
Trouble with backing on to a woods during a storm……..

On the plus side, they should all be dropped now! That is a lot of leaves.

It's lovely here at the moment bright sunshine. Calm before the storm I guess ........................................Carol
