Today, two guests sharing a stateroom onboard Celebrity Millennium tested positive for COVID-19 while conducting the required end-of-cruise testing. The individuals are asymptomatic and currently in isolation and being monitored by our medical team. We are conducting contact tracing, expediting testing for all close contacts and closely monitoring the situation.

I have just watched a vlog on this. Apparently there are children on this cruise who have not been vaccinated.

It could be false positive results which would not be a first.

As you say watch this space.

It should not come as a surprise, as even the double jab does not prevent you from catching nor transmitting it - only potentially ameliorating the effects.

For information, when I booked the Celebrity cruise I was advised that they will cover the cost of the PCR test via Boots.

I haven't had any information other than that Celebrity will cover the cost of the test.

Two breakthrough cases [odds on breakthroughs TD?] and in the same cabin [even more interested in the odds on that!].

Vaccines don't stop you catching any virus they enable the body to fight it early and stop it taking hold often very quickly, for most it will stop them getting ill many no symptoms but still able to test positive for a period and may be contagious(unknown).

There is some UK data about vaccinated people testing positive can't remember top of my head.
I recall something like 20% of deaths were vaccinated but this is very low levels now and underlying conditions are present.

I think of breakthrough is getting sick, they say these were asymptomatic cases.

Household (cabin) is still the dominant close contact situation.

You need contact so I would suspect same cabin is higher probability than other contact situations.

The isolation and tracing is all precaution ahead of getting people on & off the ships.

once the levels of transmission and getting sick amongst vaccinated groups is better known should it be encouraging I can see this being treated more like noro, isolate and monitor.

Thanks. I was interested in percentages.
The vaccine certainty doesn't stop the virus in everybody and I don't think any right minded person will think otherwise but it stops the severity and the CDC say the chances of a breakthrough, eg having a positive test after being fully vaccinated, is very rare which is why two fully vaccinated passengers, sharing the cabin have been extremely unlucky and personally, if I were to take a cruise at the moment, I wouldn't think this is cause for concern at all.

Wonder what they base that on because the US trials only did symptomatics to get their data.

Az has more information as there was more testing catching asymptomatic.

Most general testing is still symptomatic driven.

Rare doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but the percentages in fully vaccinated people is very very small as to make it rare.
The figures do acknowledge under reporting though as asymptomatic cases might not get reported.

Whatever the results, it would not stop me cruising witha fully vaccinated passenger complement.

When I ad my second shot, the information that I was given was that vaccination didn't prevent you catching covid, it reduced the effect of the virus, so should stop severe sickness. The important fact I was told to remember was that even if I was asymptomatic I could still unknowingly infect others. Distancing and mask wearing were still necessary for the foreseeable future.

Sorry, can't help you there, Annie. I only get regular updates on our region of Andalucia, and to date, they have not been introduced.
