My goodness. Thomson getting decent ships. Whatever next? Probably a decent customer service department is asking just that bit too much though.

Mein Schiff 2 is the former Celebrity Mercury. Mercury held just over 1800 passengers, but a few extra cabins were added by TUI when they took over the ship. Mein Schiff 1 was the Celebrity Galaxy which was approximately the same size. They were built in the mid 1990s. We sailed on Mercury several times, and enjoyed the classic style of the ship.

Maybe not 'huge' by today's standard but a 'good' size in my view. Looks a similar size to Aurora - i.e. 1800ish passengers, proper theatre etc. It may even have a wrap around promenade deck! Built 1990s?

Here's Mein Schiff 1 in the Norwegian Fjords a couple of years ago.

PS Edit: - Oops! Just noticed you were referring to Mein Schiff 3.

Hope they paint them in a nice traditional white like cruise ships should be, and not cling to the somber blue hull with the childish scrawls like fartwind all over it.

For the benefit of those who do not understand German.. Fartwind can be generally translated as " Airflow" or " Airstream"

Nice ships, and a definite boost for Thomson cruises. Not new by any means, but sister ships to Celebrity Century, and apparently the refurb was to a very high standard when they went over to TUI.

Shame TUI is finally dropping the Thomson brand. I was also sad when they renamed the airline - Britannia was a good name, and the airline had a proud history. I don't see what they gain by changing the name, apart from re-enforcing their corporate identity, which I am not sure is a good thing,

By eck!!You don't half hold a grudge,,,,,how long ago was it?

More balconies, got to be a good thing.
But looking at the prices they are charging for balconies on Discovery (ex Splendour)next year, hopefully having more balconies in the fleet, will bring those prices down.

My understanding is that Louis lines run Majesty and Spirit for Thomsons from what Ive been told, I just hope they dont get their hands on these. Just got back from Spirit and cant believe the difference in service and food compared to Celebration. Dont like the eastern europeans service and attitude. I know its a culture thing and Im not being racist before I get shouted at, Im just making a comparison with customer service on board. Celebration I got a welcome back, on Spirit barked an order about where my cabin was, didnt even get an offer to show me where. Louis lines seem to run a two cabin steward system and she treated him like dirt, whereas Celebration cabin staff own their own cabins. Will wait and see who will take on Discovery.

Not really a grudge JC - well maybe it is. BUT, I'm still waiting for a reply to my letter of 20 years ago. That's poor customer service by anyone's standard.

Probably why they make gratuities inclusive in the price to stop passengers having them taken off.
