Splendour of the Seas review April 2011,Lisbon to Venice. part one

We spent two days pre-cruise in Lisbon, we stayed at the Fenix Garden hotel which was quite nice, included breakfast and free wi-fi in the lobby. The hotel was very handy for the hop-on hop-off bus tour stop 1 being right opposite the hotel,we got a 48 hour pass for 15 euros. We got a taxi to the Alcantara cruise terminal which was about 8 euros.

Check-in The porter took our suit cases and seem genuinely pleased when we tipped him.
We had checked in on line before we went so it was just a case of filling in the medical disclaimer form and showing our documents at the check in desk, this was quickly done and we where on our way to boarding the ship, after check in and on the way to the ship there was a little stall selling bottles of Port for 10 euros, you buy your Port and then security on the ship take it off you until the end of the cruise.

On Board Once on board( at about midday) we where able to go staight to our cabin, as we had anytime dining there was a letter waiting for us saying book your dining time as soon as possible, I had booked the times for this on the internet before but we still went and checked the had the times for us which they had.

Our first port of call was Gibralter, unfortunetly we couldn't dock because the swell was to great, so the ship moved just outside the port and a bunker boat had great fun trying to get alongside to transfer fuel. The ships staff put on extra activities for the day,we went to the movie True Grit in the theatre and very good it was to.
Next day we docked at Cartegena in Spain,we had a very nice view of the city from our balcony, very nice it was.We just did our own thing here and walked to the old bull ring with it roman excavations, then up to castle with greats views all round, then a walk up the main boulevard, looked in the ships and had a beer outside one of the cafes.

    part two tomorrow

So pleased they have sorted out the Arrivals section there. When we were there in November the luggage piled up and the queues for embarkation were immense.

I was told that the authorities had sacked the Port Agents and it would appear this is true, good riddance as they were dreadful. Glad your experience was a good one. ....Neil

Bluemoon, we had a balcony cabin, there was plenty of room, a comfy double bed and a sofa, the bathroom was ok but the shower was cramped. We didn't take the wine package but a glass of wine was $8 plus 15% gratuity, they did have a good choice of wines and beers.
All the food was very good.Anymore questions just ask.

Gedicruise - saw your ship while in Lisbon. We were on the Ventura and it was our ship's 3rd birthday that day. Thought Lisbon was a lovely city.
