MR & Mrs T in Oslo

As predicted the arrival in Oslo at 9-00am was in darkness it does seem strange waiting for daylight to appear ,the weather to start with was not good pretty wet and cold, but by the time we left the ship the dark clouds were disappearing and later we had some wintery sunshine. The town is an easy walk from the dock and you can reach the Palace by just keep walking up the hill. They had a Christmas Fair which had some unusual gift ideas for Christmas sets of Antler’s ,Elk burgers, Elk meat sausages and plenty of hats gloves etc.made from you guessed it Elk.They do have other foods and plenty of good quality Knit wear. In the market they had an Ice rink which was a mixture of Ice and Water with no one skating ,a different tale an hour or so later loads of kids whizzing round, have a great time. The palace guards were out waiting for the Royal family to return ,we think they had attended a recording of the church service held in the Cathedral ,amazing how many church goers there are when the TV cameras and Royalty attend? The city has many fine buildings and Museums but they do have some winter and summer opening times. The main shopping area is pedestrianized all the usual shops you would expect .As one forum member said watch out for the trams and we were not to sure when we used the crossing if we were safe. City Hall Pier3 is the place to get a ferry to the museums These include the Kon tiki Museum. The Norwegian Folk and Maritime museum also the Polar ship Fram and a Viking ship museum ,We did not go but look to be within easy reach of the ship?.
We returned back to the ship both not feeling 100% both of us had a bad night due to having a chill and we both felt really cold, after getting warmed up we went for Afternoon tea in the Queens room nice music provided by the Harpist. Another nice meal in the MDR very tasty Sirloin Steak ,we watch the ship pull out from the birth and the Captain gave us details of the passage out to sea and then the weather warning high winds and rough sea. He got that spot on ?
Last nights show was a bit of a disappointment a lady Soprano her mike was faulty for her first 2 songs they change the battery pack and see carried we left after the 4th song not for us she did not sound that much better so off to the Casino to make another donation, then the Commodore Club for a drink and we watch lights on shore as we made our way towards the North sea.
As Promised the sea turned very rough during the night waking us both up and it is still making walking about the ship difficult, breakfast was well attended and they have put the Comfort (sick) bags out near the lifts.Bet those who went to the ChocolateBuffet in the Lido may not think it a good idea this morning….Taffy

One thing some of the current blogs have in common is, one way or another, a feeling of not being 100% ish sometime during the cruise.

I think this has cemented my decision not to cruise European waters in the winter, and to avoid, if poss, a TA.

At least you both were able to get a feeling of Oslo, even in the cold temperatures. I would recommend a summer cruise up there as in good weather the sail down the long fjord between Oslo and the sea is very scenic. Hope you both feel better for the sail back to home waters and good to hear you survived the trams! Many thanks for your blog and best wishes to Mrs Taffy.

Glad you got some sunshine for Oslo, it sounds a good place to visit - we're going there for the first time in June.

Sorry to hear you're under the weather, I see you made another visit to the Queens Room so I hope that the Afternoon Tea made you feel better.

          Thanks for your informative blog............HT
