Costa Cruises was named the leading cruise line in Asia at the latest regional ceremony of the World Travel Awards, which took place in Delhi on October 14th.

The event also recognised Shanghai, which was voted the continent's top cruise port, while Delhi picked up the honour for Asia's leading destination.

Other winners included Singapore (leading sports tourism destination) and Incredible India (leading tourist board).

The awards were handed out on the basis of votes cast by thousands of industry professionals and consumers around the world.

Graham Cooke, founder and president of the World Travel Awards, said: "The level of competition here in Asia is exceptional, and it is no wonder that the region is leading the world out of recession.

"As the Commonwealth Games draws to a climax, millions around the world have not merely enjoyed world-class action on the athletics track, they have witnessed India coming of age, with Delhi proving its credentials as a world-class sport tourism hub."

The grand final of this year's awards programme will take place in London on November 7th.
