    Cruising from Greenwich!

I am looking for some information and advice for our upcoming cruise embarking at Greenwich. We are planning on getting the train from Liverpool to Euston on the morning of the cruise and then a taxi from Euston to the ship. I am having trouble getting a price for a private hire from Euston to Greenwich, is there an embargo on private hire picking up at the station? Normally when we travel to London we use the tube, however not with 2 large cases plus a carry on. Someone has suggested that we arrange to be picked up at the Ibis, which is quite close. All advice will be very gratefully received! We would be travelling down on Sunday 17th June.

Have you tried doing an internet search? I did this a few minutes ago and it seemed to throw up some options.

Do you want to book a private hire because you would like the reassurance of having a definite booking? Euston station to Greenwich Pier is only about eight miles, there should be plenty of black cabs available at the station.

        A taxi could be expensive.

Euston to Greenwich is about 9 mile and as traffic speed across London is about 3 miles per hour, that would be mean a one hour journey. Ouch!!.............Wilba

Why get a private hire, plenty of black cabs available outside Euston Station to take you to Greenwich, it's not that far to travel.
Black cab would not take that long they know all the back streets, not too expensive, whenever in London we use black cab to get around prefer it to the tube.

Just noticed you will be travelling on a Sunday, just looked on line quickest way to travel from Euston to Greenwich, Taxi 19 minutes, interesting tube train 42 minutes, according to Taximeter cost approx £36.

Wilba, Redbonnet is arriving on a Sunday, traffic should be less busy. I’m a south Londoner and have spent most of my life driving in London, IMHO the journey would not take an hour.

True, I hadn't recognised it is a Sunday journey, although Del's suggestion of 19 minutes seems optimistic..........Wilba

Hi Wilba, Apologies, the ‘ Reply With Quote’ button has ceased working once again. I wasn’t having a dig, but I’ve driven to and from Greenwich to Central London dozens of times and I did think a journey time of one hour was a bit pessimistic.

I associate Greenwich as busy on a Sunday with the specialist markets?

It has been in the past but probably things have changed.

Many many thanks for all your replies. We were advised to get private hire as the taxi rank is down two lots of stairs and I can’t carry a case down stairs so my poor hubby would be left to cope! If the access isn’t bad then I think we’ll go with a black cab. The trouble I was having getting a price for private hire was because it wouldn’t let me put Euston station in, then it just didn’t accept Greenwich cruise terminal at all! I know nothing about the cruise terminal at Greenwich, originally this cruise departed from Tower Bridge but there are new restrictions in place apparently, so it was moved to Greenwich.

No need for apologies Blondie, my fault for not recognising it was Sunday travel.

Blondie there is a lift down to the taxi rank, near the booking hall so you don't have to use the steps. It's difficult to describe but it is between the exit by the booking hall and the natwest cash machines on the outside

Hi, 1fifthavenue, ‘Reply With Quote’ button is not working for me. It’s Redbonnet who needs the info about the lift, not me. I wish I was sailing from Greenwich, but sadly not. Perhaps you could link your message to the earlier post by Redbonnet, just in case she misses it. Thanks - Blondie

Hi Red Bonnett - apologies for earlier confusion between yourself and Blondie!
Please see below re lifts to the taxis at Euston....
