Istanbul also has the HOHO buses, just outside the port the HOHO bus takes you to the Topkapi palace and Blue Mosque and from there you can jump onto whichever bus you want (think it may be the RED or Blue Route) we took the one that took us over the Bridge. You will need to stay clear of the bazaars as that does require a lot of walking and can be extremely crowded.

JC the electric buses you mentioned are excellent but they are MEANT to take 8 people, When we were there they were packed.

Thank you so much for your detailed advice - exactly what we needed. ~(Wasn't going to bother with Spanish Steps, St Peters for me, Coliseum for grandson, Forum for hubby are the first on the list - then Trevi Fountain, Pizza Navona and Pantheon if we have time.

In Istanbul some of the major sites are relatively close together in a mainly pedestianised area. These include Hagia Sophia, The Blue Mosque, The Hippodrome. Check that the places you want to visit are open on the day you are in port. Some days some of them are only open to groups. The tramway is modern and easy to use, you just buy tokens at a machine,( instructions in English )We have found young people automatically get up and give you a seat.You can whizz from one area to another quite quickly. There are plenty of cafes to sit and rest if you wish. Is there a "must see" you have in mind for Instanbul? Rememsber, that like Rome, Istanbul is built on 7 hills, so what seems a short distance on the map may be a vertical slog.I love Istanbul, I hope you have a wonderful day there

Love Rome but from a ship with only about 4-6 hours there you wouldn't do it justice. We have stayed in Rome on several occasions and enjoyed them all.When docked in Civitavecchia when tend to explore near to the ship.

Rome is the place to go to on a cheapie long weekend ,enjoy the place and its people, from a ship it is just too much and very tiring.
