Hurtigruten Runs Aground

Hurtigruten are an amazing cruise liner offering something a little bit different, fantastic for the cruiser looking for something a little bit more exciting and adventurous sailing along the coast of Norway.

Unfortunately last week one of their ships the Kong Harald run aground outside Trollfjord, and took on some water.

I have said very close to Trollfjord which is a spectacular Fjord and a great photo opportunity but unfortunately in this case caused a little trouble due to a rock at the entrance to the Fjord.

The incident occurred around 11.30pm at night and the ship had to wait around 3 hours for the tide to rise before it could be taken of the rock, she then sailed across to Svolvaer in the Lofoten Islands where passengers disembarked.

None of the 258 passengers onboard which included 14 British were harmed in anyway and were flown home.

The Kong Harald is having repairs at the Fiskarstrand shipyard , the incident caused the remainder of the sailing to be cancelled.

As you will remember the last major ship to run aground was the Costa Concordia in January 2012, thankfully this incident did not result in the tragic events of this fateful sailing.
