No Kids On Board

I recently ran a poll on my facebook page asking if cruise lines should be adult only and the response I got was really interesting, it really started a discussion. My personal opinion is that children should be allowed on and most of the cruise ships have designated areas for them and plenty to keep them occupied. As a family, we went on the Navigator of the seas last August for seven nights and I barely saw mine. As soon as they got on board they made friends and spent the week with them, they were either on the sports court or the arcade and loved the freedom of being independent. I won’t lie it was a relaxing break for me too, they knew where I was at all times so could come and find me. On the flip side, I understand when people like an adult only cruises too, albeit they may all be teachers and like the chance to have adult only company, only joking. So what is the best way to keep everyone happy? Follow P&O and have adult only ships or have selected itineraries that are adult only? Alternatively, you have the luxury lines that are predominately adult only and are of high standards, smaller and even for older children, there is nothing for them to do. Also you find the majority of river cruise are adult only too. A few say children are allowed from the age of four years, but I really wouldn’t recommend as it may be boring for them.

Maybe once my children have grown up I may decide differently, but then hopefully we will still travel as a family with any future grandchildren I may be blessed with. I agree there is a time and a place but it’s nice to get away together, and I don’t think I would be the type of person who would avoid family ships.
