New Cruise Terminal for Liverpool

Liverpool City Council have been given the ‘go ahead’ to update their current cruise terminal costing a staggering £50 million. This can only mean good things for the city of Liverpool as last year 60 ships sailed from here with around 120,000 crew and clients.

The new facility at Princes Jetty on the River Mersey will include passport control, a lounge, café, toilets, taxi rank and vehicle pick up point. It is reported the existing cruise terminal brought in around £8 million which is fantastic for the city. If you haven’t been it is well worth a visit, I went for the first time a couple of years ago and definitely recommend a visit, even more now if more cruise lines will be using it.  The city itself has plenty of modern bars and restaurants and a walk along the docklands is lovely in the evening.

At the moment there are Cruise & Maritime and Fred Olsen that mainly use it and a few years on the 100th celebration the three Queens of Cunard sailed from here. It would be fantastic if more of the large cruise lines sailed from here too. It would make it a lot easier for passengers that live in the North of the country and do not necessarily want to fly, as it is a trek down to Southampton. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years and if this will be something they introduce. I guess its a case of ‘watch this space’.
