Holland America Koningsdam

Last week I had the opportunity to visit my first Holland America ship whilst she was docked in Southampton. This is quite unusual as they don’t sail from Southampton anymore and only visit as a port of call. The Koningsdam is only three years old and as a brand, Holland America is perfect for clients who want modern mid size ships. With her holding only 2650 passengers oin todays standrads she is quite small. this is something I never realised before stepping on board.

My first impression was not what I expected. I always think I sound cheesy when I say I am wowed by a ship, and even though it is a beautiful ship I was actually expecting more. The atrium is normally the area where I like to stand and take it all in. But on this ship, I wasn’t overly impressed. I feel bad for saying this but can’t help what I thought.

Once we were on board we explored and try to fit as much as we could into the little time we had.

I really liked the outdoor pool area with a retractable roof. Up here you will find the bar area and hot tubs.

Me with my colleagues on the top deck- nice to catch up.

We were lucky enough to explore a few cabins and what stood out was the family outside cabin as it is very spacious and it had a separate toilet to the shower en-suite. I liked the decor of the cabins too as you can see from the photos what a nice design they are and very bright.

When we first arrived we headed to the buffet restaurant which was decorated in a lovely lime color. This included the carpets and chairs, but it was nice to see some colour.

Keep an eye out for my next Blog where I talk about the delicious food we sampled and what there is to do on board which is different from other cruise lines.
