First Princess ship with new medallion feature arrives in Southampton.

How do you feel about technology, does it ‘float your boat’ or are you a technophobe? Either way the Crown Princess has arrived in Southampton and will feature the ‘award winning’ medallion on board from the 24th of July.

For those that don’t know the Medallion compass is instant technology making it quicker to get on and off the ship. On board it opens guests doors when they approach, which is ideal if you have your hands full with bags, beach towels or a couple of glasses of prosecco. It also allows guests to order drinks and snacks, plus holiday essentials such as suntan lotion and swimming goggles, to most parts of the ship. Three ships to date have been Medallion-activated: Caribbean Princess, Regal Princess and Royal Princess. The Medallion is intended to make every guest feel like a VIP and helps them relax and enjoy their cruise from the moment they are ready to step onboard. The device is the same size as a 10p piece and replaces more traditional cruise cards. The Medallion’s ‘compass’ feature means guests can find and stay connected with friends and family onboard, as well as navigate their way around the ship.
I have spoken to a customer who recently returned from a caribbean cruise and had used the Medallion and wasn’t overly balled over by it. However they did say you wear it around your neck so there’s no need to buy a lanyard to carry your room card. I’m not sure how my husband would feel wearing it and would probably keep it in his back pocket, which kind of defeats the object. I guess it is one of those things you have to try.

Here is when it is available on other Princess ships:

Ocean Medallion to launch on six more Princess Cruises ships

Princess Cruises has today announced the activation of Ocean Medallion on six more of its ships in 2020:

·        Ruby Princess on January 27
·        Grand Princess on March 29
·        Enchanted Princess on June 15, the ship’s launch date
·        Emerald Princess on August 16
·        Coral Princess on October 16
·        Island Princess on December 20

So how do you feel about the ships introducing this modern technology? Would you prefer to just have a room card? I know I like keeping mine from every cruise I have been as a little collection- how about you?
