Bon Voyage Oriana

When you are reading this I will be sunning myself on the beautiful island of Majorca. However just before i came away I got the chance to see photos of passengers on board the final sailing of P&O’s oldest and currently smallest ship the Oriana. It is a sad time as the Oriana was the perfect ship carrying adult only passengers across the seas. Her size was just right, not too small and not too big and having read up on her she held the Golden Cockerel trophy for being the fastest in the fleet. She is due back into Southampton on the 9th where I’m sure she will receive a warm reception before she goes off on her final journey.

Have you been lucky enough to sail on her?

I can see why people get emotionally attached to a certain ship. You may have travelled on her with a loived one that’s no longer with us. Or did you get married or renew your vows? Perhaps it was your first ever cruise and you got the bug and have been cruising ever since?

Oriana joined the P&O fleet  back in June 1994 and was christened by Queen Elizabeth II on the 6th of April 1995. When she originally entered service carrying 1928  passengers she was in fact the largest cruise line in the world. Thats pretty hard to imagine now with the size of some of the vessels that are aound. MSC have a ship ordered for 2022 with a capacity of just under 7000, crazy.
