April Fools or is it?

This week it was reported that a British Airways flight took off from London City with all the passengers expecting their next stop to be Dusseldorf only to land in Edinburgh. As I am typing this I still can’t quite believe it. Can you imagine if you used this route to commute to work and trying to explain this to your boss? The passengers only noticed when on landing there was an announcement saying ‘welcome to Edinburgh’. This is hugely unusual, thankfully but you would have thought the cabin crew would have noticed someones ticket?  It is surprising that something of this scale happened especially since 9/11 and airports at security are so secure.

Has any thing happened like this to you? It’s not like getting on the wrong bus is it?

This has got me thinking so I decided to Google it and see what results I got and was surprised that as recently as January a passenger boarded a Ryanair flight thinking they were going to Poland but instead landed at Malta. it really does question who is checking the tickets and allowing these passengers to board.

Here are some others I found:

Air France- passenger flying to Copenhagen but landed in Athens.

In 2002 a couple ended up in Sydney Nova Scotia instead of Sydney Australia

It got me thinking about cruising and it could be quite interesting if cruise lines did a mystery cruise.  Imagine boarding in Southampton and completely leaving the destination up to the cruise line. This could prove quite interesting don’t you think? The element of surprise.
