Old or New? What ship you should be choosing…

Throughout my career in travel I have been lucky enough to go on many cruise ships varying from just a few weeks old to over 20 years old.

So it’s no surprise I often get asked what sort of ship I would recommend, so I’m going to run through my opinions and the reasons as to why I would pick a certain ship.

Back in October 2014 I travelled aboard P&O Cruises Oriana, launched in 1995 but of course has had a fair few refits in her time. However I actually thoroughly enjoyed the cruise on board, I have travelled on P&O Cruises newest ship at present ‘Azura’ and didn’t enjoy that as much as Oriana. She has style, and character. She feels like home, a real classic beauty.

I have also travelled on board Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas which was first launched in 2001, and my goodness you would think she was much newer. Infact I would probably say she’s my best cruise to date.

I have also been on newer ships such as Royal Princess, and as many of you know this is my current favourite ship, she is new and it does make a real difference.

So what would I choose? Well I’m never saying no to a cruise and I’m sure you wouldn’t too but maybe incorporate the new with the old and try a ship such as Cunard’s Queen Victoria? A true Ocean Liner. If I had to choose between an older ship and newer ship I would go new but not new and big such as Oasis of the Seas as that wouldn’t be for me. I think a ship around 2008 with new and old classic features is the perfect ship for me.

So what do you consider when choosing a ship? Let me know!

Happy Cruising
