Too much Strudel for one Week…

Today I wanted to tell you about something a little different, one of my most favorite countries in the world is Austria – Having recently returned from a weeks skiing in the Austrian Alps

Austria will always hold a piece of my heart having worked in this beautiful place for 4 winter seasons and 2 summers, when I visit it is very much like going home

We started and ended are holiday with a night either side in Innsbruck  – The capital of the Tyrol steeped in history and with such sights to see as the Golden Dachl (Golden Roof) the stunning 16th century Ambras Castle. The Olympic Ski Jump at Bergisel & the Olympic bobsleigh track at Igls – Which if you visit in season you can zoom down the Bobsleigh track at speed of  115km per hour – It really does feel like your in cool Runnings! Visit the Swarovski Crystal World & Store – Perfect if you are looking for a gift for a loved one.

Mayrhofen – Chocolate box town – I have to be honest we actually travelled to Mayrhofen for the annual Snowbombing music festival headlined by Liam Gallagher and a whole host of other acts. Due to it being the last week of the ski Season temperatures rose to up to 20 Degrees – Which at Altitudes of 2100m above sea level can be very warm.

Top things to do if visiting Austria

Sample lots of Strudel – Strudel is one of Austria’s most famed dishes – You can try every flavour from Traditional Apple to Spinach and sweet cheese!

Visit the history – Just outside of Salzburg is the famous eagles nest and within the City itself is the home of Mozart, Great if you are a fan of classical music

Take a sound of music tour – Dance around in a lush green field humming the notes to the hills are alive and reinacting the famous opening scene of the much loved musical and doing your best Julie Andrews impression

Take a cable car to the top of a mountain – Right from the heart of the city centre! In Innsbruck you can hop aboard the Nordekettebarne to take you up the mountain and get a fantastic panoramic view of the city – We visited in April and it was fantastic spring Skiing weather with lots of locals finishing the working week and heading up the mountain for an afternoon of skiing – Even the children as young as 3 and 4 will show you how to ski like a pro.

If you have never been to Austria, i would definitely recommend it as a great destination all year round!
