Cruising without your luggage

Hi everyone, its raining again here in kent and i’m wondering if our summer will ever return or is that it now?

Well time for an update on my son’s travels.
So he has been in Greece for the past 4 weeks but  it feels more like 4 months .
He has spent 4 weeks swimming, playing football and going to the cinema while apparently trying to get a six pack but confused why after 2 days he’s doesn’t see any results .

They are now in Alaska on the beautiful Celebrity Eclipse and  yesterday they were docked at Icy Strait Point and apparently went zip lining. He called me by video at 1am this morning  to say it is beautiful and show me around his father’s cabin which is like an apartment. He then asked me which excursions I did when I was sailing around Alaska although some have changed and they are certainly more expensive now.
He will join as many  excursions as he can as his dad is extremely busy on the bridge even more so in Alaska and  before he knows it he will  be back home and it will be straight back to school and back to reality and me nagging him again.

So on Saturday when it was time for his father to be back at sea on the  they took their flight from Athens via London Heathrow to Vancouver but the flight was delayed for 2 hours from Athens so they missed their connection .
They had to stay overnight in Heathrow whilst waiting for  the next available flight to Vancouver.
They managed to get on Air Canada at 1pm on Sunday and the flight landed in Vancouver at 14:30 local time but the Celebrity Eclipse sailed at 17:30 so there was a huge rush for them to meet the ship in time. I’m not really sure how long the ship would wait for the captain, a question I must ask.
The captain that has just finished his contract had to wait until he knew that Captain Leonardos made it there on time . Well they did make it but guess what? No luggage . Their luggage at london Heathrow never made it onto the plane so now they are waiting for it to arrive in Juneau Alaska tomorrow . Let’s hope it arrives. At least the amazing guys in the laundry have kindly cleaned my sons clothes each night so they are clean for the next day, they really are great guys .

My son was less than impressed about his luggage especially as his dad brought him some Celebrity Cruises clothes from the on board shop which is really not cool when you are 13 ?

I must admit I would be fuming if my luggage had not  arrived for my holiday so I looked up what happens when luggage doesn’t arrive and i found this

What should I do if my luggage has been lost or left behind at the departure airport?

If your luggage fails to turn up when you arrive at your destination airport, head to the airline’s help desk where you’ll be asked to fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). It will ask for details of what your bag looks like and where you’re staying.
Most bags are traced and returned to their owners within a couple of days. Should your luggage not be found, it still won’t be classed as “lost” until it’s been missing for 21 days – until then, it’s “delayed”.
If your bag is finally declared lost, you can make a claim for compensation from the airline (for checked-in luggage only).

A good idea is to  always mix up your luggage when going away in case of this happening and also pack essentials in your hand luggage like a change of clothes and pjs.

I will update you on his travels in a few weeks time

Take care for now

Effie x
