There is a new Princess in town

It was the port of Southampton’s turn to welcome a new Royal guest recently by the arrival of Sun Princess.

It is a Medieval tradition in the City of Southampton to take part in a Plaque and Key Ceremony for all ships visiting the city for the first time and bringing business.

The Sun Princess was built in 1995 in Italy and was visiting Southampton on her maiden visit during her 98 night Voyage from Tokyo to Kobe.

Carrying just over 2000 passengers, Sun Princess is the leading ship in her Class and was classed as one of the largest ships in the world when built and also sister ship to P&O’s Oceana. She has spent her recent years over in Asia and Australia.

After her recent refit, Sun Princess will continue her Asia itineraries for the up and coming 2019 Season.

She is one of 11 cruise ships making their maiden call to the port this year which is great for the port and the city.

Transit calls always provide a welcome opportunity for passengers to visit the city taking in Maritime History. Southampton usually welcomes around two million passengers each year into the port generating around £2 million for the economy on each visit.
