Tromsø Cruises

Known as the Gateway to the Arctic region in northern Norway, Tromsø offers sweeping polar landscapes, majestic fjords and the kaleidoscopic Northern Lights overhead. The best time to see this natural light show is between September and March, and due to the positioning of the Gulf Stream it’s surprisingly mild for such a northerly position! Visit this lively city and you can explore top attractions like the Arctic Cathedral with its peaked roof, or the local wildlife of the Polaria aquarium. Its popular university gives Tromsø a multicultural, youthful vibe, seen in its notorious nightlife.

TROMSØ - DID YOU KNOW?

It’s impossible to separate natural and manmade attractions in Tromsø – the two go hand in hand! Visit the city’s botanical gardens or aquarium to learn more about the local flora and fauna within the town, before taking an expedition into its vast arctic wilderness. Kayaking, fishing, dog sledding and whale watching are a few popular activities on offer.

In addition to its outdoorsy side, Tromsø’s also a hotbed for culture and the fine arts. Its International Film Festival draws thousands of visitors each year, and you can see works from local artists at the Northern Norway Art Museum.

There’s also a vibrant dining and nightlife scene in the city, starting with its abundance of restaurants. With over 100 nationalities calling the city home, you can find everything from Indian to Chinese and Italian as well as local delicacies. Seafood and seasonal produce make a strong showing in the local fare, and after dinner you can enjoy one of the convivial yet cosy pubs.

Sustainability is a major focus of the town, particularly looking forward as tourism expands here. Tromsø’s in the process of obtaining a Sustainable Destination certification, to reduce the impact of tourism on the beautiful natural landscapes here. You can learn more about this initiative when you visit.
