Perth Cruises

It may feel remote, but Perth is a cosmopolitan city in Western Australia bursting with sleek eateries, a trendy nightlife, and mellow beaches. Whether you fancy a day of wine tasting or outdoor adventures, its location makes it ideal for outdoor excursions. Explore the recently developed Elizabeth Quay, or learn more about the city’s history in its museums and public squares. Fremantle is where cruise ships port – it’s just a short hop away from Perth and worth a visit in its own right. Visit Fremantle’s famous prison and enjoy a bohemian atmosphere laden with art galleries and cafes.

What You Need To Know About Perth

What are the can’t-miss sights in Perth?

Whether you have a day or a week, you certainly won’t run out of things to see in Perth. One of the highlights is Barrack Street Jetty, home to some of the city’s top restaurants as well as the iconic Bell Tower. Climb to the top and you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the region. Fancy a day out at the beach? Join the locals and chill out at Cottesloe Beach, a short train ride away from the city centre. Perth Zoo’s another favourite for its Australian wildlife - where else can you see echidnas, quokkas and numbats in one go?

How can you reach Perth from the cruise terminal?

Cruise ships dock in Fremantle, which is a few kilometres down the coast and a worthy destination in its own right. Within Fremantle you’ll be able to walk around, but if you’re headed into Perth city centre, you’ll need to hire one of the taxis waiting outside the gates. Expect to pay upwards of $60 to the Perth CBD for private taxi. Another option is to take the train! The train station is conveniently next door to the cruise terminal, and trains depart every 15 minutes, so you won’t have to wait long. The journey lasts 30 minutes, taking you right into central Perth.

Parking facilities around the cruise terminal

If you’re driving your own car to the port, you’ll use the Victoria Quay parking areas, which is within walking distance from the terminal. There is a parking lot in front of the terminal but don’t be fooled – it’s for drop-offs and pick-ups only! You may come home from your cruise to find your car towed if you leave it unattended. Fortunately, Victoria Quay parking is only $10/day, and you have the have the option of paying in advance or simply paying on arrival. Look for Zone 3 if you fancy long-term parking. For additional options, Queensgate Car Park is undercover with 24-7 security.

There are loads of quick and easy day trips you can enjoy from Perth. Start with Penguin Island, which is part of the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. You’ll only need to travel an hour away by road and boat, to reach this impressive enclave with white sands, nature trails, and, naturally – plenty of penguins!

If you’re hanging out around the port area in Fremantle, you can visit the town’s impressive Markets. The Fremantle Market has been up and running since 1879, offering souvenirs, clothing, homewares and delicious food from its bustling stalls.

Within Perth, Kings Park and the Botanic Garden offer a breath of fresh air and greenery in the heart of the inner city. It covers over 400 hectares of land, studded with playgrounds, picnic lawns, and cafes to relax in. The park is particularly lovely in September, when it’s blanketed by wildflowers.

Taste the flavours of the countryside on a wine sampling tour through the Swan Valley. Tucked just outside of Perth’s city centre, this lush region offers high-quality wine paired with all manner of seasonal produce and tasty nibbles (chocolate and cheese are produced here). Hire a bike and follow the Swan Valley Heritage Cycle Trail, or take a guided tour.
