Koblenz Cruises

Nestled in the heart of Germany’s Middle Rhine district, Koblenz is a top spot for wine tasting, outdoor recreation, and history. This ancient city was founded by the Romans, chosen for its strategic spot at the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine. This delightful small town has French, Roman, and German influences and is best explored on foot, so you can note the quirky details throughout the Old Town such as a clock face that sticks its tongue out each hour. To get your bearings, it’s a short cable car ride to Ehrenbreitsetein Fortress where you can see the layout of the town below.

KOBLENZ - DID YOU KNOW?

One of the best ways to spend your time in Koblenz is by simply strolling around its picturesque old town, all cosy squares and hidden courtyards. The Munzplatz Square is where the city was founded by the Romans, with additional highlights of the old town being the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial, Schangelbrunnen Fountain at City Hall, and Church of Our Lady.

Gorresplatz Square is a public area with a fascinating history, settled by Romans before its ownership by the St Castor monastery and Jesuit order. It’s housed Carl Baedecker’s publishing house, and is currently named for local historian Joseph Gorres.

The Romanticum project spans the Upper Middle Rhine Valley region, with Koblenz taking part. There are 70 interactive stations in total, where you can learn more about the different stops on this historic journey including its legends and myths!

You’ll find more exhibitions in Koblenz’s Mittelrhein-Museum, which showcases works ranging from baroque sculptures to medieval paintings. The informative plaques help teach visitors more about the church’s influence on these important works, so you’re sure to pick up a few new facts.

Apart from history and culture, Koblenz is a prime destination for shopping! In addition to its romantic Christmas markets, you’ll find loads of international brand names on the pedestrianised Lohrstrasse.
