What are the can’t-miss sights in Shanghai?
If you see nothing else during your time in Shanghai, make sure to make time for the Bund. This mile-long waterfront promenade offers a look at the city’s various incarnations with its blend of architecture styles, from Art Deco to modernism. See impressive buildings like the Shanghai Tower, Jin Mao Towers, and Customs House. Another cultural hotspot is People’s Square, a public meeting place hosting fountains, plazas, and special events. The Shanghai Museum is located there, with its exquisite calligraphy, jade, and sculptures. Stroll around the Old City to see what life was like in the 16th century with its pagodas and elegant temples, and relax in the Yu Garden.
How can you reach Shanghai from the cruise terminal?
Shanghai’s bustling port is one of the world’s busiest, but never fear – getting in and out of the city is a breeze for cruise passengers and the city is quite walkable! This is because the main cruise terminal is located right in the North Bund area, close to major attractions. The Bund is within a 15-minute stroll along the waterfront, and the Nanjing Road shopping district is just under half an hour. Of course, there are also shuttle buses on hand to take you to and from major sights. Taxis are reasonably priced in Shanghai, but you may need to walk to the nearest hotel to find one.
When is the best time to visit Shanghai?
Wondering when to plan your visit? The ideal time to see the sights here is during the autumn months, when the weather’s dry and comfortable and tourist numbers are lower. Temperatures start to fall in December, but don’t let that put you off! Spring is a charming time to visit as well, when the city streets burst into bloom and temperatures are very comfortable. The one time that’s not particularly recommended is summer, particularly if you’re not a fan of humidity and crowds. (You’ll find both in abundance as well as the heavy rains of monsoon season).
