Havana Cruises

Step back in time and experience centuries of history when you visit beautiful Havana. This Cuban capital is a highlight of any Caribbean itinerary with its vibrantly coloured colonial architecture, classic cars and flavourful cuisine. Sway along to the salsa rhythms in its nightclubs or enjoy a slower pace of life in Havana’s sandy beaches. There’s a thriving cultural scene in the city’s contemporary galleries, where fine art and culture are put on display. And one of Havana’s greatest pleasures is simply sitting outside a café with an iced coffee (or mojito), watching the world go by!

What You Need To Know About Cuba

What are the can’t-miss sights in Havana?

One of the greatest pleasures of visiting Old Havana is simply wandering through its warren of cobbled alleys, open markets and main squares. The Revolution Museum is a must-see, housed in the former Presidential Palace with its white marble interiors. Pick up souvenirs at the Calle Obispo craft market, or spend the morning browsing through second-book stalls. The Museum of Fine Arts is another impressive attraction with its Cuban artworks, or you can tour a cigar factory to learn how these famous exports are made! And don’t miss a journey up the Casablanca hill to see the El Cristo statue and sweeping city views.

How can you reach Havana from the cruise terminal?

The cruise terminal is fairly small and centrally located on the eastern side of Old Havana, making it easy to venture into the city centre. The Plaza San Francisco is just a few steps away, and the Malecon seaside promenade is 1.5 kilometres from the terminal. Although the city’s prime attractions are only a 15-minute stroll from the terminal, you’ll have an abundance of transport options whether you prefer travelling by bicycle taxi, modern car or vintage American automobile. Taxis often don’t include working metres, so be prepared to put on your haggling hat!

When is the best time to visit Havana?

This sun-drenched city is well worth a visit in any season, but particularly during the winter when there’s a festive atmosphere. There’s a lively cultural calendar running throughout the year, with highlights including the International Festival of Latin American cinema in December, the Jazz Festival in January, and the Cigar Festival in February. If you want to explore Cuba’s growing contemporary art scene, visit during the springtime to experience the Habana Bienal art fair. Hurricane season stretches from June and October, so it’s best to check the forecast if you plan to visit during the summer or autumn months.

Havana- Did you know?

Although there’s plenty to keep you busy within the city limits, you don’t have to venture far to enjoy a beach day. Playas del Este are a group of white sandy beaches fringed by tropical palms and warm seawater, positioned just half an hour outside of Old Havana city. Head to Santa Maria del Mar to hire a sun lounger or relax by a beach bar.

Explore Havana’s literary side by visiting Ernest Hemingway’s favourited haunts. You can tour his Cuban home called La Vigia, or sip a drink in his honour at old-school bars like El Floridita and La Bodeguita del Medio.

If you have a free evening in Havana, the city’s nightlife is a must! Visit the famous Tropicana cabaret for show-stopping spectacles, or work on your fancy footwork to the sounds of live rumba and salsa bands. Obispo street is a top choice for live music on most evenings, lined with bars, restaurants and jazz clubs.

Cuban cuisine is one of the best reasons to visit Havana, so don’t miss the chance to try creole dishes blending spicy beans and rice with pulled pork or fragrant chicken. Seafood is always a popular option, as are freshly prepared cocktails like daiquiris and mojitos. And you can round out your experience be enjoying a post-meal hand-rolled cigar!
